Exposure to EDCs
We are exposed to EDC pesticides from residues in the air, residues in fruit and vegetables (and processed food made from this produce), and from contaminated animal products such as meat, fish, dairy produce, and eggs. Some EDC pesticides are sometimes found in drinking water, eg linuron and atrazine.
Pesticides applied to the crops we eat contain EDCsThe EDCs are so numerous that the potential interactive effects of numerous hormone disrupting chemicals is of real concern - and the effects are unknown.
Because of the history of pesticide use, we cannot be completely free of their effects eg exposure to DDT can still arise from a number of sources including mobilisation of DDT stored in the body, continued illegal usage, contaminated sites from past use, and continued usage elsewhere - it can enter our system via air, water, food, and other products.
