Organic Sugar
Once christened white gold, refined sugar has taken on the label of one of the white poisons. Traditional sugar cane production
The energy from fruit and many vegetables is provided to the body in the form of sugar, but this does not make sugar, by itself, beneficial to the body. Fruits and vegetables contain naturally occurring sugar in a package with water and carbohydrates. When our bodies digest the sugar in fruit and vegetables, we get a slow release of sugar into our bloodstream. Fruits and vegetables are also nutrient rich with beneficial fibre, vitamins and minerals. Sugar Harvesting
In contrast to this, refined sugars reach the body in a highly concentrated form and go directly to the bloodstream. This provides our bodies no benefit, and causes harm to our health. Naturally occurring and unrefined sugars contain some nutrients whereas concentrated or refined sugars are devoid of nutrients.
Organic sugar is better for us than refined non-organic sugar but it is still sugar and carries with it health risks. Sugar has been linked to:
- increased insulin levels
- obesity
- dental caries
- diabetes
- energy slumps
- osteoporosis
- high blood pressure
- premature aging
Sugar actually suppresses our immune system.
Organic sugar is approximately 50 percent less processed than conventionally grown and refined sugar, but is still largely made up of hollow calories.
Paraguay was the first country to engage in industrial-scale organic sugar production. Then came Cuba, Colombia and Brazil, but the decline in international sugar prices made the business less attractive, prompting Cuba and Colombia to cease production. The major buyers of Paraguay's organic sugar are Australia, New Zealand, Germany, Israel, Italy, Malaysia and US.
