Meat and animal products from conventionally raised livestock is not the best choice for consumption. The main issues for organic animal production are: animal welfare, inclusion and contamination with antibiotics, growth hormones or promotors, GMOs, and other chemicals.
Conventional livestock feed contains pesticides that were used in growing the feed. Antibiotics are then typically added to conventional livestock feed. These pesticides, antibiotics and other drugs that livestock are exposed to during their lives can become incorporated into their tissues, especially their fat.
Conventional livestock production also uses feeds that are not a natural part of the animal’s diet, eg corn for cows, or soybeans for poultry. At the same time, these animals have limited or no access to the foods they are naturally adapted to eat. There are several issues that surround the grass fed vs grain fed livestock production.
